LEGAL DISCLAIMER & CLINICAL LIMITATIONS

Last Updated: February 2025

1. NATURE OF THE PILOT PROGRAMME Baro Place is an investigational Social Investment Pilot designed to gather data on the biological drivers of youth recidivism. While our protocols are based on peer-reviewed research (Thom et al., 2006; Efrati et al.), the “Baro Place Protocol” is a specific combination of therapies being evaluated for efficacy in this specific cohort. Participation does not guarantee a specific legal, behavioral, or medical outcome.

2. NOT A MEDICAL FACILITY Baro Place is a Supported Residential Community, not a registered hospital or psychiatric ward.

  • No Acute Care: We do not provide acute medical care, detoxification services, or crisis psychiatric intervention.
  • The Technology: The OxyLife C Hyperbaric Chamber is utilized as a physiological tool to reduce neuro-inflammation and mobilize stem cells. While this technology is “Medical Grade” (2.0 ATA), its application within this pilot is for neuro-restoration and wellness, not the treatment of acute medical emergencies.
  • Consultation: All participants undergo screening, but this program is not a substitute for advice from a primary physician or neurologist.

3. NO FORENSIC OR BEHAVIORAL GUARANTEES “Biological Justice” refers to the restoration of neurological capacity (impulse control, sleep regulation, and executive function).

  • Capacity vs. Conduct: We restore the capacity for self-regulation; we cannot guarantee the conduct of any individual.
  • Recidivism: While our goal is to reduce re-offending, Baro Place accepts no liability for future offending behaviors committed by graduates of the program.

4. SECURITY & SAFETY (OPEN HOME MODEL) Baro Place operates as a Permitted Activity (Supported Residential Care).

  • Not a Prison: We are not a Secure Youth Justice Residence or a Detention Centre. We do not use locked perimeters, restraint cells, or guards.
  • Absconding: Residents participate voluntarily. If a resident chooses to leave the premises without permission, Baro Place staff will follow “Flight Risk” protocols (notifying Police/Oranga Tamariki), but we cannot physically restrain a resident from leaving.

5. CONTRAINDICATIONS FOR HBOT Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is generally safe but carries specific risks. Participants will be screened prior to entry. We strictly cannot treat individuals with:

  • Untreated Pneumothorax.
  • Certain active lung conditions.
  • Active/Acute viral infections or fever.
  • Inability to equalize ear pressure (Valsalva maneuver).

6. DATA PRIVACY (TIP TRAQ) This pilot utilizes TipTraq™ wearable technology to collect biometric data (Sleep Efficiency, HRV).

  • Anonymity: All data utilized for the “National Study” (N=96) and government reporting is fully anonymized.
  • Usage: Individual data is used solely for the purpose of operational safety and circadian entrainment during the resident’s stay.
